Dancing with My Daddy

Jan Grubbs Devotions

When I was a little girl, my family took vacations with other families. In the evenings, our families usually ate together in one of cabins, while the adults recalled the day’s adventures and planned the next day. When I heard of plans to visit a special restaurant that featured outdoor dancing, my heart leapt. This special restaurant had a large concrete dance floor surrounded by lights strung from pole to pole.

At some point in the evening, my daddy always walked over to the children’s table, bowed, and asked me to dance.  With his mighty arms, he lifted me up and placed me upon his feet. He smiled and laughed as we spun and dipped. Sometimes he hummed to the music as it played. My heart felt so secure in his loving embrace. I didn’t want the music to stop. His love wrapped around me like a warm blanket.

Did you know your Daddy in heaven loves to dance and sing over you?

“The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17 KJV).

The word “rejoice” translates to dance, skip, leap. Notice in Scripture, He also sings over us.  I wonder what songs He sings over me. I bet they are love songs. Can you even imagine the love that must pour forth from Him while He dances and sings over us?  That great love transcends all barriers. It is a security to us because He is a mighty warrior. “For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee” (Isaiah 41:13 KJV). It is unconditional love because we are His children and His love never ends.

“The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, [saying], Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee” (Jeremiah 31:3KJV).

His love sends peace in the midst of a storm. His love gives me wisdom and knowledge. I could go on and on. I challenge you to look at what His unfailing love gives us.  Meditate on His love. Spiritually see Him singing and dancing over you. No doubt His eyes are full of love. Receive His unconditional love and experience being wrapped in a blanket of His love.

Let’s bow and pray:

Lord, how do I count all the ways You love me? Forgive me for not recognizing how great a love You have for me. As mighty as You are, thank You for dancing and singing over me because of Your great love. Make my heart overflow with Your love for me. Help me remember this great love in all circumstances of my life. I trust this wonderful love because you have promised it to me. Praising You always, Amen.
