A Message from Jan

“I LOVE TEACHING WOMEN THE BIBLE AND SEEING THE LIGHTBULB COME ON.”

When I was growing up, my dad used to say, “Every day is a new day to Jan,” and it’s true. No matter what happened the day before, every day is new to me. Like you, I’ve had some incredible highs and some tough lows. In those hard times, Jesus always holds and comforts me.

If you had told my mother I would become a writer, she would have gotten tickled. She was an English teacher, and everything I wrote when I was in school made her want to pull her hair out! I was a “life is a bowl of cherries” girl. Fun, carefree, and the life of the party, I met my straight-laced, Baptist future husband at 18. We got married at 20 and began going to church. I went through the motions, but became a true believer at 24.

I love teaching women the Bible and watching their expressions when they receive revelation.  One time, I was preparing to speak to a group of women leaders, and I asked the Lord what to teach on. Immediately, He gave me the picture of us being the Bride of Christ. I am a hopeless romantic, so this spoke to my heart. I dove into studying Jesus as our Bridegroom, which wooed me into a more intimate relationship with Him.

My husband always says I am full of surprises. No one is as surprised as we are that I’m writing, but Jesus isn’t surprised. He took my love for Him, my love for the Word, my love for women, and turned it into this ministry.

Each of us has hidden qualities that Jesus is waiting to reveal. As you linger here, I hope you come to see Jesus as your Bridegroom and the depth of His love for you.

I’m a Texas girl.

I grew up in Waco and have the Texas twang to prove it. I spent most of my married life in Dallas/Fort Worth. Besides Jesus and my husband, my family captures my heart. George and I have two married children and five grandchildren. The “grands” and their friends all call me “Honey.”

I love college football, women’s basketball, and coaching from my lounge chair. I also love long walks, quiet times with my husband, golf, travel, and laughter with friends. Other than that, my greatest joy is spending time with Jesus.

George and I began our spiritual journey as youth pastors at 25. Since then, we have been a part of planting two churches and served on mission trips to Africa, Hungary, Ukraine, Russia, and Guatemala—and I’ve been teaching Bible study for over 50 years!

George and I serve on the board of One For Israel, which ministers to Jews and Arabs and has a Bible college in Israel. One For Israel produces video testimonials in Hebrew, English, Arabic, and Russian which have reached millions for Christ.

What people are saying about The Groom, the Bride, and the Matchmaker…

Every once in a while, you read a book that becomes a lingering, unfolding, revelatory personal encounter with not only the Scripture but also with God our Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit. You are holding such a book. Jan’s gift of interweaving Old Testament truths expressed in Jewish weddings is remarkable. I confess I’ve put bride and bridegroom in a box and think of them as the Church and Jesus. Jan challenged me to see that I am the bride personally and Jesus is my Bridegroom—with scripture verses and resources to add to my journey!
